Course Overview
This combined course delivers the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights and enter and work in confined spaces. It is designed for workers in construction, mining, maintenance, and industrial environments where both fall risks and confined space hazards are present.
What You'll Learn
Upon completion, students will be able to identify hazards associated with working at heights and confined spaces, and implement appropriate control measures. They will be competent in using safety equipment, following permit systems, and working safely in accordance with workplace procedures and legislative requirements.
- Identifying hazards and risks when working at heights and in confined spaces
- Applying the hierarchy of controls for fall prevention and confined space hazards
- Selecting, inspecting, and using fall protection equipment (harnesses, lanyards, anchor points)
- Completing and following confined space entry permits
- Setting up exclusion zones, signage, and barricades
- Safe access and egress methods (ladders, platforms, and entry points)
- Communication protocols and working with standby personnel
- Emergency response and rescue procedures
- Selecting and using appropriate PPE for both work environments
